I had no idea barley could be used to make bread. One day, on my quest to in corporate the sunnah into my diet, and knowing how barley was one of the Prophet’s favorite grains, I decided to research it and scope out ways I could consume it.
When I was still overseas and trying to eat healthy I used to search Pinterest incessantly for wholesome and healthy recipes that would appeal to my palette as well as get my kids’ seal of approval. Amongst the most popular was one such recipe by Gimme Some Oven. It is a great base recipe and I make it often with some changes to suit my family. There are many add ins (cranberries, white chocolate chips, shredded coconut) but if you know me, you know I love chocolate!
Celebrating this powerful fruit and it’s relatives has been a focus here in my home. We have been conscientiously eating our fruits and vegetables. Be they raw or cooked, savory or sweet, as snack or as part of a meal. I am truly enjoying fall.
So out with the processed foods, in with the natural. Ah, easier said than done! Especially if you have two growing boys. With hearty appetites.
With that in mind, it was crucial that I find a killer recipe for pancakes. And other such sweet treats.
