These immunity bombs were born out of sheer necessity. Whenever I share my Lemon Ginger Honey Syrup recipe, a handful of people always want to avoid honey. So, here we are! With the option to add honey later, these cubes will make both camps happy.

Ingredient Notes

Citrus: I used both oranges and lemons, but you can use either one.

Ginger: I use the organic variety so that there is no fear of pesticide residue, and so there is no need to peel it.

Turmeric: You can use the root or the powder, but try to use the organic variety.

How to make these frozen immunity cubes

  • Peel the oranges and, optionally, the lemon. Then, blend all the ingredients until fully incorporated. At this stage, you can strain the mixture, or, if you’re lazy like me, freeze it with the pulp and strain when ready to drink.
  • To strain, add a fine-mesh sieve atop a bowl and pour the mixture into it. Push with the back of a spoon to squeeze out the juice. You can also use a cheesecloth or nut milk bag to squeeze every last drop. Use the pulp in smoothies.
  • Next, pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze for up to 3 hours or until frozen. My ice cube tray measures about 2 teaspoons per cube.
  • Once ready to use, add the cube to a strainer in a mug, and pour boiling water over it. The cube will melt, and you can strain away the fiber. The immunity tea is ready to drink!

Notes

  • Feel free to use any orange. Just make sure they are medium-sized, about the size of a tennis ball, to ensure the right proportions.
  • I used turmeric powder, but you can use the fresh root.
  • These are perfect for meal prep, so once they are frozen, transfer them to a zip-top bag and store in the freezer for easy access.
  • Note that if you opt not to strain these before freezing, there will be about 12 cubes.
