Can you believe we are already into day three of 2017? It is just amazing how time flies! With every new year we make new resolutions and goals and try to maintain them as the days go on. How often is it though that we swerve off the path and go back to our old ways? Perhaps the goals seem unattainable because they are too unrealistic?
When I was thinking about my own goals for this year I couldn’t help but be reminded of this extremely wise and all inclusive hadith or saying by the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh):
“Take benefit of five before five: Your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty, your free time before you are preoccupied, and your life before your death” (Narrated by Ibn Abbas and reported by Al Hakim)
All five of these things are blessings which we take for granted. We don’t truly realize what we have until we have lost it. I invite you to reflect on this very sage advice and let it guide you as you set your goals for this new year. May it be a most productive and healthy one for us all!
