Life Lessons From My Mom

Life Lessons From My Mom

I don’t believe in having just one day allocated to the toughest position in the world. Motherhood. Raising little humans is one of great responsibility although extremely gratifying at the same time. Before I became a mom I really didn’t realize just how tough moms had it.  It’s been ten years since I lost my own mom. Ten years on…

Cardamom Date Balls

I have been wanting to make something that would give me the satisfaction of methai (a popular South Asian dessert/sweet meat made with milk and sugar) yet without the dairy and refined sugar. I was surfing the internet and came across detoxinista’s version and thought I’d give it a try. I tweaked it a little, added some more nuts and…

30 Day Jumpstart

30 Day Jumpstart

I am so excited to finally share The Eat.Drink.Pure 30 Day Jumpstart  with you all and just in time for the new year too!

The premise is simple. Eat whole foods e.g. fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Take out the bad (processed junk)  bring in the good (healing anti inflammatory foods, herbs and spices) and get moving at least 30 minutes a day. This can mean any physical activity. You can do yoga, running, walking, weight training etc. but do it you must, for 30 minutes every day. That’s it. 30 days of keeping to this lifestyle is bound to heal you of so many common issues.

Four Ways You Can Cultivate Gratitude in Yourself and Your Kids

Four Ways You Can Cultivate Gratitude in Yourself and Your Kids

Gratitude is crucial when it comes to your health. A grateful heart reaps the benefit not only spiritually but physically too.

Studies show a person who is grateful tends to have fewer aches and pains and is in better health than one who is ungrateful. According to Robert Emmons, a leading expert on the scientific effects of gratitude, being grateful has a host of physical benefits, amongst which are:

  • a stronger immune system
  • lower blood pressure
  • better sleep patterns
  • and the ability to exercise and be more in control of ones health.

There is a whole community on Facebook dedicated to gratitude and it offers motivation and inspiration to those with chronic illnesses and has seen the positive outcome of this emotion on their members. Here’s what Lauren Blanchard Zalewski, the founder of the group, in a comment on this article had to say about it.

Chocolate Zucchini Muffins

Ok so let me just start by saying that these chocolate muffins are just amazing! They have become a hot favorite in my home and I have two growing boys who can safely be described as chocoholics  so you know anything sub par will just not cut it! The beauty however is that I get to sneak in some zucchini without them having a clue.

A Purposeful Life~ Lessons Learnt

A Purposeful Life~ Lessons Learnt

There’s nothing more powerful than the death of a loved one to get you to wake up and question the meaning of life. A life with purpose is after all, the sure way to set and crush ones goals.

It was the death of my mother almost nine years ago that had me question what my purpose in life is. A tragedy often throws one towards spirituality and I was no different. I enrolled myself into Quran studies, being Muslim I knew that my faith talks a lot about life and the transient nature of it. It talks of action rather than going through life heedlessly and hoping for the best later. Because there is a later, it’s called the After Life.
